Detective Bureau

Responsibilities
Westlake Police Department’s Detective Bureau is responsible for the investigation of all felony and serious misdemeanor crimes with the intent to bring the violator before a court of law and recover stolen property. Primarily, Detective Bureau personnel focus on the following:

  • Investigations of incidents which are a violation of the law

  • Personnel investigations to determine the suitability of applicants for positions of public trust

  • Investigation of conditions and circumstances that may be criminal in nature

Detectives gather and prepare the results of these investigations for presentation to the grand jury and prosecution. The Detective Bureau is commanded by a lieutenant, who currently oversees six detectives or patrolmen assigned to bureau duties.
