Bicycle Patrol Unit

Out of the car and onto the streets, Westlake Police Department’s Bicycle Patrol Unit reaches areas where a patrol car cannot and allows for interaction with residents in an up-close and personal way. Led by Sgt. Jon Leonard, the unit is comprised of specially trained sworn and auxiliary officers.

The Bicycle Patrol Unit recognizes children using bike helmets, presenting them with certificates from the AAA Helmet Smart Bicycle Program; patrols neighborhoods on Halloween; and provides added security presence at schools, parks and other public areas, ensuring both motorist and pedestrian safety.
