Westlake Recreation Center Set for Major Indoor Pool and Park Upgrades in 2025
The Westlake Recreation Department is committed to providing exceptional facilities for residents, and we are excited to announce major improvements coming to the Recreation Center Natatorium (Indoor Pool) and Recreation Center Park in 2025! As the Rec Center nears its 27th anniversary, these upgrades will bring modern enhancements while maintaining the high-quality amenities our community enjoys.
While these improvements are underway, we understand they may cause temporary inconveniences and appreciate your patience as we work to enhance your recreation experience.
Indoor Pool (Natatorium) Renovation
The Natatorium renovation will refresh the space while addressing safety and functionality concerns, ensuring an improved experience for all visitors. Planned updates include:
✅ Resurfacing the pool deck and replacing drain covers and gutters
✅ Interior painting of walls, ceiling, and ductwork
✅ Inspecting & replacing ductwork hangars as needed
✅ Upgrading overhead lighting
✅ Fixing humidity issues and addressing rusted metal at the slide tower
✅ Replacing diving boards, starting blocks, and bleachers
✅ Installing new translucent panels and skylights at the slide tower
✅ Renovating the women’s locker room
📅 Renovation Timeline: Work is expected to begin this June and be completed within three months or less. Exact dates will be announced soon.
🏊♂️ During renovations, Westlake Rec Center members will have access to the Rocky River Recreation Center indoor pool. Members can also purchase a separate pass to use the Westlake Aquatic Center outdoor facility, with sales beginning March 2025.
Recreation Center Park Upgrades: New Athletic Fields & Inclusive Playground
The Recreation Center Park is set to undergo major renovations this summer, bringing expanded athletic fields and an inclusive, state-of-the-art playground.
Athletic Field Improvements
⚾ Baseball fields will be expanded to accommodate 90’ bases with adjustable mounds, artificial turf infields, new dugouts with storage, and field lighting for extended play.
🏈 A new artificial turf multipurpose field will support full-size football and soccer while also allowing smaller-sized fields for various age groups.
🌧️ Drainage issues at the base of the hill will be resolved, and the surrounding turf will be improved with sand-slitting, grading, sodding, and irrigation.
A Playground Designed for Everyone
🛝 A brand-new, inclusive playground will replace the existing structures, designed for children of all ages and abilities. Features will include:
✔️ Autism-friendly play elements
✔️ AD(H)D and sensory-focused activities
✔️ Wheelchair-accessible equipment
✔️ A large, action-packed play structure for ages 5-12, designed to be a standout feature within the park
✔️ A smaller, fun-filled play area for ages 2-5
✔️ Benches and shaded seating areas for parents and visitors
