This award recognizes the success of the Second Annual Westlake Community Run and Pancake Breakfast, an event that has grown to become a cornerstone of our community’s health and wellness efforts.
Held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, the Community Run brought together over 200 participants for a 5K or 1-mile run, speed walk, or walk through the scenic city. In conjunction with the race, more than 2,000 attendees enjoyed the Annual Safety & Wellness Fair, which featured activities like a Touch-a-Truck, free bike helmets, health screenings, and entertainment for all ages. This year also marked the addition of a Kids Dash, sponsored by Westlake Kiwanis, which offered young participants a chance to join the fun and earn a treat bag.
After the race, the community gathered for the First Annual Pancake Breakfast, catered by Chris Cakes and featuring their famous flying flapjacks. This addition was a hit, with over 200 people enjoying a hearty breakfast. Proceeds from the event raised more than $7,000 for the Westlake Recreation Department’s Youth Scholarship Program, furthering opportunities for children in our community to participate in recreational activities.
The day’s success would not have been possible without the support of generous sponsors, including University Hospitals, the dedication of our volunteers, and the collaboration of community organizations such as Westlake High School, Westlake Kiwanis, and Westlake Youth Soccer. Special thanks also go to the Westlake Police, Fire, and Service Departments for their efforts in ensuring the event ran smoothly.
