Current Construction Projects

When passing any vehicle with flashing lights on the side of a road, Ohio’s Move Over Law requires motorists to cautiously shift over one lane — or slow down if changing lanes is not possible. The law's purpose is to protect everyone who works on and travels our roads in the State of Ohio.  Browse ODOT Move Over page to learn more.

If you experience an incident in a construction zone, fill out and return this form to our office, via email or hard-copy. If you have any quotes for the repairs or pictures of the damage, please include those as well. After we receive these items we will then forward your information to the City’s Contractor for review of the claim. The contractor or their insurance company will reach out to you directly. If they do not reach out to you in a timely manner or you feel as though you need additional information or assistance please reach out to us at 440-617-4145.

Westlake proposes to complete reconfiguration of I-90/SR 252 (Columbia Road) Interchange

The City of Westlake is proposing to complete the I-90/SR 252 (Columbia Road) Interchange Reconfiguration project by reconstructing the westbound side of the interchange. The eastbound side was reconstructed in 2017 as project CUY-90-3.56, PID 88665. This project (CUY-90-3.56 WB, PID) will fulfill the city's commitment to complete the reconstruction of the entire interchange.

The proposed project consists of consolidating traffic and reconfiguring intersections within the interchange. The intersection of Sperry Road/SR 252 would be reconfigured and the westbound I-90 exit ramp to northbound SR 252 would be removed. Traffic would then be combined on the loop ramp for the westbound I-90 exit to southbound SR 252. The loop ramp will be widened to two lanes and will intersect SR 252 opposite of Sperry Road. This reconfiguration will combine two closely-placed signalized intersections into one.

Due to increased traffic volumes for the entrance ramp from northbound SR 252 to the westbound I-90 entrance ramp, a dual left turn lane will be provided and the entrance ramp widened to two lanes.

All improvements will be completed within the exiting right of way. No additional property will need to be acquired.

This $4,300,000 construction project is expected to begin in late 2021. Questions and/or comments regarding the project may be submitted by Nov. 29, 2020, to Robert P. Kelly, Director of Engineering, City of Westlake, 27700 Hilliard Boulevard, Westlake, Ohio 44145. For further information or to submit formal comments, please contact the Westlake Engineering Department at (440) 617-4145. Comments may also be emailed to the Engineering Department at

Update (April 29, 2022): Beginning Monday, May 2, all drivers using the Westbound I-90 exit ramp at Columbia Road will share the Northbound exit ramp. Drivers wishing to head south may turn left at the top of the Northbound ramp and those heading north may turn right as usual. This traffic pattern will be in place through the Summer. Workers are scheduled to complete set-up for the new traffic pattern on Sunday, May 1 at 8 p.m., weather permitting.

Update (April 21, 2022): ODOT has pushed construction along Sperry Road near the I-90/SR 252 interchange to the first or second week of May. Sperry Road will be open to EASTBOUND TRAFFIC ONLY at Columbia Road. Westbound traffic will be directed to follow detour signs. This will be in effect for 28 days. The temporary closure of the westbound lane is in accordance with Phase 1 of this project. For more information about this project, contact the ODOT District 12 Public Information Office at 216-584-2006. Refer to the image below as well. This road closure was previously scheduled to begin April 14 but inclement weather necessitated a delay.ODOT 252 DETOUR ROUTE
