Computer & Household Hazardous Waste

Westlake Service Department supervises these annual collections for residents of Westlake only.

Please note: These collections take place during designated weeks only, not year-round. See below for options in Cuyahoga County for disposal of these items at other times of the year.

Acceptable Items

During the Round-Ups, we can accept a variety of items in addition to computers, such as scanners, phones, video games, stereo equipment, microwaves, cameras, etc. Please review our lists of acceptable items and those we cannot accept.

Acceptable Items

We accept a variety of oil based paint and related products, pesticides, household cleaners, adhesives, etc.  Please review our list prior to bringing items to the Service Center.

No Latex or Acrylic Paint
Latex and acrylic paint will not be accepted. It is not classified as hazardous waste and can be safely disposed of with your household trash after it is dried out.

Items No Longer Accepted

The City of Westlake can no longer accept the following items during our hazardous waste round-ups, due to changes from the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District published in summer 2018. 

Propane Tanks

Recycle propane tanks and other pressurized cylinders through propane dealers and retail stores that sell propane and other pressurized gas. https://cuyahogarecycles.org/propane_tanks 

CFL Bulbs and Fluorescent Tube Bulbs

  • CFL bulbs (only) - Accepted FREE of charge at any Home Depot and Lowe's
  • Fluorescent tube bulbs and CFL bulbs - Recycle for a small fee at Batteries Plus Bulbs - 4607 Great Northern Blvd. North Olmsted, OH. 44070 / (440) 276-1126  http://www.cuyahogarecycles.org/fluorescent_bulbs

Fire Extinguishers

Empty plastic extinguishers can be disposed of with your trash. Empty metal extinguishers can be recycled at a scrap metal yard. If your fire extinguisher is full, please reference https://cuyahogarecycles.org/fire_extinguishers for information on disposal.

Batteries

Alkaline (single use) batteries can be disposed of with your trash. Rechargeable batteries and Lithium Ion batteries are considered hazardous and should not be disposed of with your trash. These batteries can be disposed of at a Call2Recycle location https://www.call2recycle.org/locator/
