Bike Rodeo
Safety is the name of the game at the Bike Rodeo, a program offered to elementary school children to emphasize safe bicycle riding.

Career Shadowing Program
For one day or several—as arranged with the school—students spend time with patrol officers out on the road, with detectives in the Detective Bureau, and with dispatchers in the Communication Center for an enlightening and educational experience.

Community Police Academy
Hands-on instruction includes fingerprinting, operation of the radar and laser guns, driving a patrol car on a marked course, conducting building searches, and pistol shooting in the Westlake Police Department range.

Westlake Police Department administers Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) using uniformed officers to deliver key prevention messages to students in elementary through high school.

Firearm Safety
Students in third grade attend an in-school, hands-off gun safety class, the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program, led by Officer Roseanna McCoy.

The Juvenile Diversion Commission oversees and operates the Westlake Juvenile Diversion Program. The Juvenile Diversion Program is designed to divert children who violate the law away from the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court system.
